Deuteronomy was written by someone from a later age pretending to be Moses. As such, it is the most important literary impersonation ever written. Come learn why contemporary biblical scholars believe this to be true and what it teaches us about how to read the Bible historically. The first session will focus on the story in the Book of Kings of the “discovery” of Deuteronomy. The next four sessions will read Deuteronomy, also known as Sefer Devarim, intensively in light of the context laid out in Kings. This class is aimed at those who are willing to prepare the assigned material with a partner before each session.
