SUMMARY:Untangling Exodus
DESCRIPTION:Instructor:&nbsp\; Herb Levine\nDates: November 7\, 14\, 21\, 2
 8 and December 5\, 2022\nTime: 1:30 - 3:00 PM\n&nbsp\;\n\nHow many times h
ave you heard explanations of why sometimes God hardens Pharoah’s heart
and sometimes Pharaoh hardens his own heart? This class will offer you a f
ramework to answer that question without resort to either philosophy or th
eology. If that possibility appeals to you\, then please join in our study
of Exodus 1-20. Students are encouraged to study the texts with a partner
before class\, following a set of guided questions. While this approach d
emands more commitment than many Adult Ed classes\, it also offers the rew
ard of deeper mastery. In the first four classes we will focus on untangli
ng the multiple stories of the burning bush\, the plagues\, the crossing o
f the sea and the Ten Commandments. In a fifth and final class\, we will c
onsider the implications for how we understood Torah and our relationship
to it.\n\nHerb Levine loves teaching Jewish Studies to adults. He was trai
ned as a Ph.D. in English and American Literature and taught courses in th
e Bible as literature and its impact on later literature. He previously ta
ught Mussar as a KH adult ed. offering.\n\nTo Sign Up For This Class Pleas
