  will provide an introduction to four ancient classics in the Jewish libra
 ry: the Hebrew Bible\, the prayer book\, the Talmud\, and the Midrash\, ea
 ch of them constituting mini-libraries in their own right. We will look at
  selected texts in English\, unriddle their secret codes\, and learn how 
 best to hear their ancient voices with modern ears. This is an entry level
  course\, especially for people new to Judaism or intimidated by text stud
 y.\n\nAfter serving for eighteen years as Editor in Chief of The Jewish Pu
 blication Society\, Dr. Ellen Frankel now works as a freelance writer\, li
 brettist\, editor\, and community volunteer. She is the author of The Clas
 sic Tales\, The Five Books of Miriam\, The JPS Illustrated Children’s Bi
