Rabbi Jennifer Singer is a vibrant and passionate teacher, service leader, storyteller, and singer. Her love for living and sharing Judaism can be felt whenever you step into the sanctuary or her classroom, or simply have a conversation in the hall.
Her services are warm and inclusive and filled with joyous music. A dynamic speaker, her sermons are brief but thought provoking, and her weekly emails to the congregation are heartfelt, beautiful, and beautifully written, thanks to her former career as a writer.
A long-time Sarasota resident, she is well known in the community and is often invited to speak at events of local organizations. Strangers still stop her on the street to thank her for her inspiring speech in 2018 to 3,000 people at the community’s vigil after the Tree of Life synagogue shootings in Pittsburgh.
Rabbi Jennifer has served our congregation since 2008, first as Education Director, then Spiritual Leader since 2013, and as our Rabbi since 2017.
She was ordained as both a Rabbi and Spiritual Director by ALEPH: The Alliance for Jewish Renewal in January 2017, and earned an MA in Jewish Education from the Jewish Theological Seminary in 2006. She also holds a BA in journalism.
Her most recent volunteer activities include serving as president of the Sarasota-Manatee Rabbinical Association, on the board of the Sarasota Ministerial Association, and on the Jewish Federation’s Community Relations Council.
She is the proud mom of two adult daughters, and currently shares her home with senior rescue dogs named Houdini and Zimra.
